Whether for us music means to elevate the spirit by remembering centuries of history, culture and traditions, or to give us simple moral support for the digestion of the dinner left on our stomach, it doesn't matter. What is certain is that it is such an intense component of life that it affects the everyday life of each of us. After all... what could be nicer to embellish our leisure time than what makes us more serene?

Love for Hi-Fi and Hi-End, without compromise

Music will always be our goal, that's why the means are always of fundamental importance. Expenditure and effort are the two coordinates on which to move to make our Hi-Fi system starting from its most basic form formed by source, amplifier and speakers. To these components, if we try to achieve perfection, we can add a mains conditioner, pre-amplifier, a second amplifier and much more.

Years of fine-tuning, upgrading and acoustic chiseling, however, can be wiped out in an instant. Or, at least, many of them can go up in smoke if we do not pay due attention to the wiring of our system. The sound signal passes through these "bridges" (the cables) when it goes from one component to another and, at this juncture, a cable can be really decisive.

But what are the differences between standard and Hi-End cables? It has to be said that a cable does not "play", per se, in the sense that it is a passive element and therefore does not emit sound and cannot improve the signal. In fact, it could alter it contrary to the principle of the search for high fidelity!

The excellence of a cable becomes evident when it comes as close as possible to leaving completely intact the sound it receives at the input, transferring it in the best way to its output phase. In a nutshell: the best cable carries the sound as close to the way it was recorded. That's why relying on poor quality cables can mean an important bottleneck, which chokes and degrades the signal between one component and another.

The disadvantages of bad wiring for the system, which determine the differences between standard and Hi-End cables, are listed below:

  • degrade the sound
  • restore little transparency
  • have a reduced detail
  • make the sound not neutral

It goes without saying that the greater the number of components in the system, the greater the importance that the cables assume by carrying the signal many times from one point to another. Above all, it is important to tune all the cables in the system, because even the best of the cables cannot "cure" a signal degraded previously due to a poor quality previous connection. As we have said, it can only deal with the signal in the best possible way in its area of competence, that is, in the stretch it handles. The cable is therefore a penalizing element when it is not given due attention; the game is to "remove" the sound as little as possible.

But where does the sound compromised by a poor quality cable come from? Mainly from the cheap materials it was built with. Conductors, connections, insulation, shielding and construction geometry make all the difference in how the signal is handled. On the other hand, there is nothing, in the known reality, that does not have less or greater consequences than where it is located. The fabric, the size but also the colour of a dress, for example, change the perception we have of it and even how we wear it. And it is the same for everything; could the cord be the first entity in the known world to be totally irrelevant? But let's take a more practical and less theoretical example, of strict motoring current affairs, of how important it is to think about every aspect.

On the occasion of the Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix of 1 September 2019, the Ferrari team has decided to have its new "Evo 3" engines tested at the satellite stables Alfa Romeo and Haas. The main team, after verifying its reliability, adopted the same solution in the following Monza Grand Prix on 8 September. With the same Speaker engine, though, the result was quite differentwith a beautiful victory for Ferrari. The best placement obtained by the other two teams was the ninth place of the driver Antonio Giovinazzi.

How could this happen? Beyond the talent of the driver, everything that was connected to the engine and allowed it to work and "dialogue" with the other components, was as important as its power, if not more. The point is that, although the heart of the car was identical, all those less obvious (but very important!) ingredients were in one case of extreme quality, in the other two a little less.

Differences between standard and Hi-End cables: the solution exists

There are Hi-End cables that are created to allow enthusiasts to enjoy their passion in the most authentic way. How? By aiming for excellence when it comes to structure, materials, conductors, insulation, terminations and so on. The necessary condition is to be equipped with a system of such refinement that the difference in performance between the old standard cables and the new Hi-End can feel worthy. This production implementation has made it possible to produce smoother strands on the surface, more ductile and of smaller diameter, for a lower skin effect and resistance, as well as greater flexibility and better acoustics.

Finally something special, because we have found that the use of conventional brass connectors can lose as much as 50% of the performance of a connection and we have started to RCCP (RicableCopper Connector Project)with the aim of building new connectors with pure copper contacts.
