What's new in the Ricable catalogue: USB cables, AES/EBU and Jack variants

Last week we summarised in an article which improved versions of certain Ricable cables have been released recently. Today we want to summarise what's new in the Ricablecatalogue. We're referring to the USB cables, anticipated by the Magnus series only, but with the cables of the Dedalus and Invictus series coming soon; to the AES/EBU cables, already available in the three series Magnus, Dedalus and Invictus; and to the Jack cables, present in the catalogue also with the 6.3 mm connector and with relative extensions.

USB cables

USB cables have become an everyday object. But what is their function in Hi-Fi? USB cables in Hi-Fi are used to carry a digital signal between a personal computer and a DAC, usually. The technical and material quality of the USB cables Ricable allows for great results compared to a standard cable (and not only), especially if the source file has a lossless data compression. According to the tests we carried out with the USB cable Magnus, the improvement is also noticeable in PCM and even with compressed formats such as MP3.

Magnus USB

Still considering the USB cable Magnus, the least valuable - though top-quality - of those in the Ricable catalogue, we carried out computer tests to understand its limits. The Magnus USB goes well beyond the 2.0 certification (which guarantees INTERCONNECT up to 5 m). We performed connection tests with a Hi-Fi DAC with 96 kHz audio files and a very simple passive pen drive. The result is impressive. We were able to connect the DAC up to a distance of 30 metres, playing 96 kHz files. With the passive device, which has no auxiliary power supply and has to receive power from the cable, we were able to go up to 25 metres connected to a direct USB port on the PC.

Dedalus AES/EBU

AES/EBU Cables

AES/EBU is also a standard format for digital audio, used to interface different devices with each other. In Hi-Fi, it is primarily used to connect digital sources to the DAC. Some high-end equipment has the option of connecting with a 110 ohm XLR cable, which improves transmission performance over the classic RCA coaxial (the analogue equivalents). The AES/EBU cables Ricable are divided into the three classic series: Magnus, Dedalus and Invictus, with a progressive increase in the quality of materials and construction technique.

The key to a good AES/EBU cable is that it maintains as close to the optimum 110 ohms as possible for as long as possible. In this sense, even the cable that would be the least valuable of the three, the one belonging to the Magnus series - however outstanding, does a very good job.

Cables Jack 3.5 and 6.3

This is a line of professional connection and headphone cables, based on Magnus Signal. The Ricable Jack cables are ideal for connecting or extending high-end headphones, microphones, mixers and other high quality equipment; they are also great for some musical instruments that have 3.5 mm or 6.3 mm Jack connections. The Magnus Jack 3.5 cable is actually an old acquaintance of all our loyal customers. However, we have added variants of this cable to our catalogue, all exclusively for the Magnus series.

Magnus RCA Jack

The first is the Jack 3.5 cable extension, which is complemented by the Jack 6.3 cable and its extension. The other very interesting addition is the Jack 3.5 / RCA cable.
