The following review of Invictus Speaker Reference and XLR cables is the result of the "Ricable Review" initiative. What made you choose Ricable?

Always looking to improve the system after having used many more or less expensive branded cables or even built by engineers with excellent skills, I was left with this Ricable in my head and finally I tried... starting with the cables Speaker from which I had a result far beyond expectations and which prompted me to also try the connection cables and...

What do you think about the construction
and aesthetics of the product?

Arrived (very fast like Amazon prime), I noted beautiful packaging, the cables are also very well constructed and have excellent connectors, heavy just the right amount of weight they have a fair amount of flexibility, the appearance albeit of a cable is nevertheless very well done, the terminations are accurate and the terminals -- in my case I asked for the spades on the amp side and the bananas on the speaker side -- are of high quality.

How did you carry out the tests? Which songs did you use to test the cable?

And so, on a Sunday, we begin the test, convinced of my cables Speaker I put under these Invictus with the firm conviction that within a short time I would return them, availing myself of the Ricable policy that allows returns. I then replace my bidirectional cables (of which I have extensively sung their praises for the past year or more...), then turn on the system strictly starting with the sources, then the preamp and last the power amp, then select my reference records Talkin' 'bout You by Diane Schuur, Festival by Lee Ritenour, A te by Fiorella Mannoia and Musica Nuda...
Schuur begins and as soon as it starts the first sensation is that the power of the extension is greater, almost as if I had turned up the volume too much...the first few minutes go by and dismay combined with doubt crowds into my mind, I convince myself that I have been suggestible, so I stop everything and go to lunch, but with a portion of my brain I stay thinking, as soon as I can I go back to the system it is 3 pm:30 ... we are in the hour of afternoon silence, I wait for 4:00 p.m., at 4:01 p.m. the volume is from after an hour of listening, things are getting better and better, the sound is getting more and more real, pleasant, flowing, in short, an unexpected wonder ... and the mind already begins to speculate ... what if I also take the interconnect cables between preamp and power amp and between source and preamp? But then I say to myself, "Wait until you're easy to fall in love and then think again." So I look for flaws, maybe a certain edginess? But it is noticeable at times and seems less and less present... The days alternate and the defect seems to disappear while the sound acquires a new dimension, deep, complete with really total silences and full, very full, no roughness... to the point that I convince myself that it is useless to change the interconnects... But where do we put the doubt? In the meantime I try again to put the old cables Speaker and the whole thing returns to an almost sloppy "flatness" situation...

What were your
listening impressions?

So, after ten days, I start again with the comparisons and the result is always in absolute favor of the Invictus cables and so I trigger the decision to order the interconnect cables, as soon as they arrive (48 hours scarce) I put them under and off I turn the whole thing on and... another jump on the couch! What the heck, I think, possible these cables are yet another improvement? But then why didn't I decide to make this purchase sooner? Maybe I would have saved myself so many more changes...well, I can't know that, but surely the music has changed, now when I turn on the system and start listening, every record is different, more beautiful, more complete, more harmonious; mind you, poorly recorded records are uglier than before...you can hear all the production errors...but for that you need a miracle and this Ricable can't do it, but I'm certainly thinking about the power cords, who knows if they can give some further boost or if I've reached the top?

Your conclusions.

Follow my next reviews because I have an idea that with the power cords, assuming I decide to get them, I will give you a complete new review, assuming Ricable decides to publish this one which perhaps does not quite follow the required pattern but which is the result of the enthusiasm that these cords have generated in an audiophile now used to looking for subtle differences, and who instead has been confronted with a really important difference!

What made you choose Ricable?

I discovered Ricable by accident at a friend's house and inquired about purchasing an entry level RCA at the beginning of building my last system. After two and a half years, thanks in part to the Ricable upgrade plan, I have the entire system wired with Invictus. The last purchase was a Invictus XLR to connect the Rose RS150 streamer to the McIntosh C53 preamp.

What do you think about the construction
and aesthetics of the product?

Definitely the best product for value for money. The construction is impeccable and with top-notch materials. The XLR cables have a very comfortable and precise clamping system. The shielding is really top-notch, since I have been using Ricable cables I have not experienced any kind of interference INTERCONNECT.

How did you carry out the tests? Which songs did you use to test the cable?

I used a test record containing several songs from different genres of music to evaluate each parameter of the system. I know this record very well so that I can pick up every little change right away. The first listen for me is always important even if the cable is not broken in, but it gives the first impact. The XLR was at first impact already a very high level cable. After a hundred hours of use I must say that the three-dimensionality of the streamer's sound is record-breaking.

What were your
listening impressions?

The Invictus cables are extremely transparent. They neither add nor detract from the character of the system. The system simply sounds as it should sound. I could say that the soundstage turns out to be deep and wide and the instruments well defined in space. But these are all characteristics to be attributed to the system and the recording. The XLR has the tremendous merit of allowing all this to be conveyed with great neutrality and transparency. You know when listening is so pleasant and natural that you no longer think about the system? Here, the Invictus cables manage to give the system this characteristic.

Your conclusions.

My system is fully wired Ricable Invictus . It was a spontaneous upgrade path by first purchasing the Dedalus and then, thanks to the upgrade program, upgrading to the Invictus. My system has gained in all parameters revealing its characteristics to the fullest. I highly recommend Ricable products that already from the Dedalus series , up to the most valuable Invictus, give very high performance in terms of neutrality and transparency.

What made you choose Ricable?

I've read a lot of reviews of Ricable products with owners praising their purchases. I decided to try the INTERCONNECT balanced cable from the Invictus series. The fact that it is an Italian product and the fact that I can return it within 60 days if I am not satisfied with the result were two important factors for me.

What do you think about the construction
and aesthetics of the product?

I noticed a lot of attention to detail, starting with the box: carefully made, with attractive colours and with a foam inside to protect the cables from possible shocks during transport. The cables themselves are also very attractive: large in section, but not too stiff and in a nice light blue colour. A particular praise to the connectors; you can immediately perceive the great level of finishing and precision in the realization that guarantee an excellent connection with the electronics.

How did you carry out the tests? Which songs did you use to test the cable?

I didn't use any particular method; I simply listened to the records/songs I know best in order to appreciate the differences between the two configurations: Invictus balanced versus the previous unbalanced cables of a well-known American manufacturer. The only trick I used was to let the system play with Invictus for about twenty hours before doing any "serious" listening.

Invictus XLR_View04_F
Invictus XLR Fulvio
What were your
listening impressions?

I was expecting some small improvements, due to the fact that the cables I had before were the models at the bottom of the manufacturer's range. After the break-in period (even if the fact of breaking in the electronics and, even more so, the cables, has always left me a bit perplexed about the real benefits) I was simply amazed. The differences were there, and very evident. With the Invictus the level of detail is impressive: the voices are limpid, crystalline to the point of making it seem that Agnes Obel is sitting in front of me singing. Another example is Bruce Springsteen in The Ghost of Tom Joad. With the previous cables, it sounded like Bruce was cutting out the last syllable of almost every word, but the Invictus 's managed to get all the information through, which made listening so much more enjoyable. There was another improvement in the lower frequencies: they were more impressive than before, but totally free of slabbiness. The sound reconstruction is also remarkable; you can fully perceive the position of instruments and voices, without any confusion.

Your conclusions.

In conclusion, I can say that the Invictus 's have really made a difference in my system, taking it to another level. They may not be for everyone, but they are definitely worth a try (if you don't like them, you can always return them). I also think that the price is not at all excessive, also considering the remarkable care in manufacturing and the use of precious materials. And then, dulcis in fundo, they are Italian!

What made you choose Ricable?

I was already familiar with the products, having bought some entry level cables on Amazon years ago, RCA and digital coaxial cables that did very well. I figured that the top of the range cables had to be at least very good. Also, after a promotion on the Gazebo Audiofilo forum site I got to know both the products and the staff better. So as soon as a balanced cable became necessary, I gave it a try.

What do you think about the construction
and aesthetics of the product?

Construction above suspicion, very robust and with great connectors. The colour is also very nice, personally perhaps I would have chosen something darker or brighter, like red or yellow. But that's nothing, the colour doesn't bother me too much in Hi-Fi, I'm more into 'listening'.

How did you carry out the tests? Which songs did you use to test the cable?

I have not adopted a real method. The loudspeaker system is a work that I have completed in about nineteen years and I know it like the back of my hand, I just need to change a screw upstream to notice something. Ditto the headphone system on which I adopted a second cable that arrived just yesterday. So I just plugged it in and listened.

Antonio Ricable Review Invictus XLR

What were your
listening impressions?

I have already reviewed this cable on the product page. After about a month I can add that it has come to full working order and the sound has only improved. There is a frightening body, the sounds are robust but never redundant with delocalisation bordering on the improbable. And making a pair of 802 Nautilus invisible, room permitting, is not for everyone. There is no frequency range that overpowers adjacent frequencies, everything is where it should be and I never want to turn off the system I'm listening to from time to time.

Your conclusions.

The conclusion is that, just the day before yesterday, I bought a second one for my more representative headphone setup shown above. I connected the Susvara directly to the Luxman speaker binding posts and a few days ago placed a second CA X45 Pro in this setup. My previous cable, while very good, was silver and this pair of electronics probably doesn't like this metal much. It felt very good, but despite having only a few hours of use left, as soon as I put this Invictusin yesterday, everything seemed to fall into place. Gone is that sense of 'dirtiness' I used to hear in the high and very high frequencies, and everything has gained body and linearity. I can't imagine what it will be like when it's up and running. I hope I've been helpful, and maybe in the future I'll be very tempted by a Netzkabel of this series... let's see how I get on!
