Power supply in Hi-Fi. Do cables matter?

Hi-Fi power cords, based on their three fundamental coordinates (resistance, capacitance and inductance), improve the quality of current transfer to any type of electronics that has a tray IEC. Think amplifier, preamplifier, DAC, players and audio players. But why are these cables important when they are "only" transferring current and not sound? Because interference, voltage variations and poor transmission affect what we hear. A proper power cord for your system can substantially improve the result. This, however, provided that the instrumentation is of such a level to perform a faithful reproduction of the original sound. In this case what we listen to will be enriched of nuances and contrast, in a wider, bright and musical context.

The consequences of poor nutrition

A premise is mandatory. Every home is a different story and must be considered for what passes through the conduits of the system and for those skeins of electrical wires that are in the junction boxes that you have in your home. It is not possible to ignore what is behind the walls. Ideally, therefore, a Hi-Fi system that aims for perfection should also have quality structural cables to support it. In addition to this, for excellent performance it is recommended that you purchase a mains conditioner, which 'cleans' the mains supply of noise and allows for more faithful and noise-free music reproduction.

It must be said, however, that the cables that pass through conduits, whether good or not, are "naturally" less subject to any kind of interference, internal or external, just because they are behind a wall. The critical passage is when the current transmission stops passing through the walls of the house and is out in the open, that is when it starts from the wall socket and, usually, ends in our audio source or in a multisocket. During this connection the power cord is subject to interference both from the outside to the inside and vice versa. The consequence of this EMI/RFI interference takes the form, in the listener, of distortion, loss of detail, balance and three-dimensionality.

Why power cords are important

Every day, we may tend to equate the power supply of our microwave oven with that of our hi-fi electronics, "because it's always a question of getting the required power to the desired device". Amplifiers and other equipment of this type, however, have a more delicate task than switching them on and off. They are used to reproduce as accurately as possible a signal that is constantly changing according to a very large number of parameters.

But that's not all. The time of day in which you listen to the music also affects the sound quality. As the late hours approach, there are fewer and fewer devices that use the mains, so the disturbance injected into it is reduced. Ultimately, audio systems tend to sound much better at night than during the day, as many enthusiasts have found.

The Hi-Fi mains cable influences the passage of the electrons swirling inside it. Therefore, if it is the means by which the whole system sounds, not only is its importance not negligible, but it ends up being fundamental with respect to the other cables. In fact, any shortcomings introduced cannot be made up for later. What we listen to is nothing but the electric current present in the energy distribution network, modulated according to the signal contained in the phonographic support. In addition to this, the electrical conduits are used for the transport of energy, but sometimes also for data transfer (powerline for example), which represents a source of disturbance.

The solution Ricable for optimal nutrition

We have carried out a meticulous study, supported by numerous tests, in order to find an effective remedy to interference. We have worked on geometries, shielding and insulation to create products that guarantee optimal immunity in the various product ranges. Starting with the Primus which has an optimal shielding for entry level equipment and goes up gradually to the series Invictus. This adopts a unique geometry, insulation and shielding system, ideal for equipment of absolute technical standing. In between we find Dedalus e Magnus that complete the offer and cover the needs of any electroacoustic.

Another feather in the cap of our power cables are connectors RCCP of the highest qualitywhich for Magnus are made of copper and for Dedalus e Invictus are made of pure OFC copper. All equipped with integrated ferrites, they allow the best connectivity you could wish for. Below you can find out more about Ricable Power , unique cables that guarantee your electronics to get the maximum detail, balance and listening dynamics.
