The power supply in the Hi-Fi. Do the wires count?

The Hi-Fi power cables, according to their three fundamental coordinates (resistance, capacitance and inductance), improve the quality of current transfer to any type of electronics that has a tray IEC. Think amplifier, preamplifier, DAC, players and audio reproducers. But why are these cables important when they are "only" used to transfer power and not sound? Because interference, voltage variations and poor transmission affect what we listen to. A power cable adapted to your system can substantially improve the result. This, however, provided that the instrumentation is of a level that will faithfully reproduce the original sound. In this case what we listen to will be enriched with nuances and contrast, in a wider, bright and musical context.

The consequences of poor nutrition

A premise is mandatory. Each house makes its own history and should be considered for what passes through the system ducts and for those hanks of electrical wires that are in the junction boxes that you have in the house. You can't ignore what's behind the walls. Ideally, therefore, a Hi-Fi system that aims for perfection should also have quality structural cables to support it. In addition to this, for excellent performance we recommend the purchase of a mains air conditioner, which "cleans" the electricity from noise and allows for a more faithful and interference-free music reproduction.

It must be said, however, that the cables that pass through the ducts, whether valid or not, are "naturally" less subject to any type of interference, internal or external, precisely because they are behind a wall. The critical step is when the power transmission stops passing through the walls of the house and is in the open, i.e. when it starts from the wall socket and usually ends in our audio source or a multi-socket. During this connection, the power cord is subject to interference from the outside to the inside and vice versa. The consequence of these EMI/RFI interferences takes shape, in the listener, as distortion, loss of detail, balance and three-dimensionality.

Why power cables are important

Every day we are perhaps led to assimilate the power supply of the microwave oven we have at home to that of our electronics for Hi-Fi, "so much so that it is always a matter of bringing the required power to the desired appliance". Amplifiers and other equipment of this type, however, perform a more delicate task than switching them on and off; in fact, they are used to reproduce with the highest possible precision a signal that varies continuously, according to a very high number of parameters.

But that's not all. The sound quality is also affected by the time of day when you listen. As the later hours approach, fewer and fewer devices use the power grid, so the disturbance that is injected into it is reduced. Ultimately, audio systems tend to sound much better at night than during the day, as many enthusiasts have pointed out.

The Hi-Fi power cable influences the passage of electrons that shake inside it. So, if it is the means by which the whole system plays, not only is its importance not negligible, but it ends up being fundamental compared to the other cables as well. In fact, the shortcomings introduced can no longer be recovered later. What we listen to is nothing but the electrical current in the power distribution network, modulated according to the signal contained in the phonographic support. In addition, electrical conduits are used to transport energy, but sometimes also for data transfer (powerline for example), which is a source of disturbance.

The solution Ricablefor optimal feeding

We conducted a thorough study, supported by numerous tests, to find an effective remedy for interference. We have worked on geometries, shields and insulations in order to create products that would guarantee optimal immunity in the various product bands. It starts with the series Primus which has optimal shielding for entry level equipment and goes all the way up to the Invictus. It adopts a unique geometry, insulation and screen system, ideal for equipment of absolute technical stature. In the middle we find Dedalus e Magnus that complete the offer and cover the needs of any electroacoustics.

Other highlights of our power cables are the connectors RCCP premiumthat for Magnus are made of copper and for Dedalus e Invictus are pure OFC copper. All equipped with integrated ferrites, they provide the best connectivity you could wish for. Below you can find out more about RicablePower, unique cables by design, which ensure your electronics get the maximum detail, balance and dynamics of listening.
