La seguente recensione del cavo Supreme HDMI MKII è il frutto dell’iniziativa “Ricable Review”. Ricable Review è il programma ideato da Ricable, nato per raccogliere feedback dagli audiofili, al fine di portare a un continuo miglioramento dei prodotti presenti nel catalogo. Ultimo ma non meno importante, coloro che aderiscono al programma ricevono a casa un attestato, con lo scopo di attestare come il cliente sia entrato a tutti gli effetti a fare parte della “famiglia Ricable”.
Il seguente Feedback è stato realizzato sulla base di un questionario predefinito a cui l’utente ha restituito le proprie impressioni, in maniera completamente libera. Ringraziamo Dean per il tempo che ci ha dedicato.
I watched a review on YouTube by Passion for Sound about a DDC connected to a DAC. The review explored which connection type might be best between the DDC and the DAC – for example, coaxial, optical, IIS, AES/EBU, etc. The conclusion was that I²S via HDMI might be the best overall connection.
It was in that YouTube review that the Ricable HDMI MKII was mentioned as a very high-quality cable with excellent internal characteristics that minimize electromagnetic noise. In addition, the cable’s overall shielding also reduces external electromagnetic interference that causes noise. Furthermore, this cable is described as being particularly well-suited for use not as a standard HDMI video cable but as an I²S cable utilizing HDMI connectors.
and aesthetics of the product?
When I received the Supreme HDMI MKII cable, I was pleased to find that it was very well made; the cable felt sturdy and substantial. The cable jacket is superb, as are the HDMI connectors. Based solely on the cable’s construction and quality, I was very pleased and felt that what I had purchased was worth the money.
I purchased another HDMI cable that was touted as being very good for I²S, but it isn’t as well-built as the Supreme HDMI MKII. My first cable was much thinner in diameter, and I didn’t feel it would be resistant to noise from within the cable itself or from nearby external cables. I thought my first cable might act as an unwanted antenna, picking up electromagnetic interference or noise more than the Supreme HDMI MKII.
For testing, I simply swapped my first HDMI cable with the Supreme MKII cable back and forth repeatedly, which was time-consuming since I had to constantly change the cables. I then had a friend switch the cables without telling me which was which.
I listened to vocal music, string chamber music, pop music, classic rock, blues and other genres. I wanted to listen to my collection of music that I was very familiar with and focused on the vocals, the instruments in the high-frequency range, and the low frequencies. As part of my testing, I listened to acoustic and electronic instruments, wind instruments, choral music, and much more. This took several days of testing. I know my testing was very subjective, and the only tool I used was a simple decibel meter to ensure I was listening at the same volume regardless of the cable. I sat in the same position every time and kept the same settings on my WiiM Ultra, DDC, DAC and preamp. I didn’t change the position of the speakers, and I didn’t need to adjust the volume very much at all to ensure a fair test – though it wasn’t as scientific as a test conducted in an audio lab might be. But this was testing for my own ears in my own home. My question was simply: which HDMI I²S cable sounded better?
listening impressions?
When I replaced my first HDMI cable with the Supreme HDMI MKII, I first noticed that the pace and tone were very similar, and – for me – it was difficult to discern any subtle differences between the two cables. Yes, there was a difference in that the Supreme HDMI MKII was just a little bit better in terms of these two characteristics.
But the biggest and most noticeable difference is a cleaner sound – more specifically, there was a deep, deep black. The tones are richer and have more life; they are more precise. I could hear subtle sounds I barely heard before, such as when a vocalist takes a shallow breath or fingers sliding along guitar strings before striking the next note or chord. There wasn’t much difference in the higher frequency range, but to me, it wasn’t a harsh, irritating series of high notes either (I attribute this mostly to the DAC – which is an R2R DAC – not the cables). However, the Supreme HDMI MKII produced a much-improved midrange and strong, satisfying bass. I was very impressed. I think all these improvements are due to the fact that there was much, much less noise. I didn’t realize I was hearing noise until I no longer heard it with the Supreme HDMI MKII. With little to no noise, I could hear subtleties I hadn’t noticed before, which enhanced the experience of truly exceptional listening.
Your conclusions.
I was pleasantly surprised to receive the Supreme HDMI MKII cable so quickly after ordering it directly from Ricable. A visual inspection of the cable gives you confidence that it is built to last and performs well. In terms of sound quality, it does perform very well, at least compared to my other I²S HDMI cable. I don’t usually write reviews that include comparative testing, so I can’t compare the Supreme HDMI MKII cable to other high-end cables for the same purpose, but I’m very happy with this cable. Well made, great sound – well done!

– The only thing I would suggest improving is to make the HDMI connectors fit more tightly and snugly. The plugs can easily slip out of the sockets on the devices they are connected to

Ho guardato una recensione su YouTube di Passion for Sound riguardante un DDC collegato a un DAC. La recensione analizzava quale fosse la tipologia di collegamento migliore tra DDC e DAC, prendendo in esame opzioni come coassiale, ottico, I²S, AES/EBU, ecc. La conclusione è stata che l’I²S su HDMI rappresentasse probabilmente la soluzione di collegamento migliore in assoluto.
È stato proprio in quel video che è stato menzionato il cavo Ricable HDMI MKII, descritto come un prodotto di altissima qualità dotato di eccellenti caratteristiche costruttive interne, capaci di ridurre al minimo il rumore elettromagnetico. Inoltre, la schermatura complessiva del cavo attenua le interferenze elettromagnetiche esterne che generano rumore. Il cavo, infine, è indicato come particolarmente adatto non tanto per un impiego standard come cavo video HDMI, quanto piuttosto per l’utilizzo come cavo I²S basato su connettori HDMI.
e dell’estetica del prodotto?
Quando ho ricevuto il cavo Supreme HDMI MKII, ho constatato con piacere che era realizzato in modo eccellente; il cavo trasmetteva una sensazione di robustezza e solidità. Il rivestimento esterno è di ottima fattura, così come i connettori HDMI. Già solo basandomi sulla costruzione e sulla qualità del cavo, sono rimasto molto soddisfatto e ho ritenuto che l’acquisto valesse la spesa.
Ho acquistato un altro cavo HDMI, pubblicizzato come eccellente per l’I²S, ma non è costruito bene quanto il Supreme HDMI MKII. Il mio primo cavo aveva un diametro molto più ridotto e non mi dava l’idea di poter resistere efficacemente ai disturbi, né quelli interni al cavo stesso né quelli provenienti da cavi esterni vicini. Temevo che quel primo cavo potesse agire come un’antenna indesiderata, captando interferenze elettromagnetiche o rumori in misura maggiore rispetto al Supreme HDMI MKII.
Per la prova, ho semplicemente alternato più volte il primo cavo HDMI con il Supreme MKII; è stata un’operazione lunga, dato che dovevo sostituire i cavi continuamente. In seguito, ho chiesto a un amico di scambiarli senza rivelarmi quale stessi ascoltando di volta in volta.
Ho ascoltato musica vocale, musica da camera per archi, pop, rock classico, blues e altri generi. Volevo ascoltare brani che conoscevo a fondo, concentrandomi sulle voci, sugli strumenti nelle frequenze alte e sulle basse frequenze. La mia sessione di ascolto ha incluso strumenti acustici ed elettronici, fiati, musica corale e molto altro, richiedendo diversi giorni di test. Sono consapevole che la mia valutazione è stata molto soggettiva; l’unico strumento utilizzato è stato un semplice fonometro, per assicurarmi di ascoltare sempre allo stesso volume, indipendentemente dal cavo impiegato. Mi sono seduto sempre nella stessa posizione e ho mantenuto invariate le impostazioni di WiiM Ultra, DDC, DAC e preamplificatore. Non ho spostato i diffusori e non è stato necessario regolare significativamente il volume per garantire un confronto equo; certo, non è stato un test scientifico rigoroso come quello che si potrebbe condurre in un laboratorio audio, ma si trattava di una prova effettuata a casa mia, basata esclusivamente sul mio udito. La domanda a cui volevo rispondere era semplice: quale cavo HDMI I²S offriva una resa sonora migliore?
impressioni d’ascolto?
Quando ho sostituito il mio primo cavo HDMI con il Supreme HDMI MKII, ho notato subito che il ritmo e la timbrica erano molto simili e, per me, è stato difficile cogliere differenze sottili tra i due cavi. C’era comunque una differenza: il Supreme HDMI MKII risultava leggermente superiore proprio sotto questi due aspetti.
Tuttavia, la differenza più grande e evidente è un suono più pulito; più nello specifico, si percepiva un “nero” di fondo estremamente profondo. Le tonalità sono più ricche e vivaci, oltre che più precise. Riuscivo a percepire dettagli sonori che prima sentivo a malapena, come il respiro leggero di un cantante o lo scorrere delle dita sulle corde della chitarra prima di suonare la nota o l’accordo successivo. Non c’erano grandi differenze nella gamma delle alte frequenze, ma il suono non risultava aspro o fastidioso (aspetto che attribuisco principalmente al DAC — un modello R2R — e non ai cavi). Il Supreme HDMI MKII ha però offerto una gamma media decisamente migliorata e bassi potenti e appaganti. Ne sono rimasto molto colpito. Credo che tutti questi miglioramenti siano dovuti alla drastica riduzione del rumore di fondo. Non mi ero reso conto della presenza di rumore finché non è sparito grazie al Supreme HDMI MKII. L’assenza (o quasi) di rumore mi ha permesso di cogliere sfumature che prima non avevo notato, rendendo l’esperienza d’ascolto davvero eccezionale.
Le tue conclusioni.
Sono rimasto piacevolmente sorpreso dalla rapidità con cui ho ricevuto il cavo Supreme HDMI MKII dopo averlo ordinato direttamente da Ricable. Un esame visivo del cavo trasmette subito l’idea di un prodotto costruito per durare e capace di offrire ottime prestazioni. Sotto il profilo della qualità sonora, le prestazioni sono eccellenti, quantomeno se confrontate con quelle del mio precedente cavo I²S HDMI. Di solito non scrivo recensioni basate su test comparativi, quindi non posso confrontare il Supreme HDMI MKII con altri cavi di fascia alta della stessa categoria, ma sono davvero soddisfatto di questo acquisto. Ottima fattura, suono eccellente: complimenti!

– L’unica cosa che suggerirei di migliorare è rendere l’innesto dei connettori HDMI più saldo e aderente; le spine tendono a sfilarsi facilmente dalle prese dei dispositivi a cui sono collegate
