Power supply in Hi-Fi. Do cables matter?

Hi-Fi power cables, based on their three fundamental coordinates (resistance, capacitance and inductance), improve the quality of current transfer to any type of electronics with a tray. IEC. Think amplifier, preamplifier, DAC, players and audio players. But why are these cables important when they are 'only' used to transfer current and not sound? Because interference, voltage variations and poor transmission affect what we hear. An appropriate Netzkabel for your system can substantially improve the result. However, this is only possible if the instrumentation is of a level that faithfully reproduces the original sound. In this case what we listen to will be enriched by nuances and contrast, in a wider, brighter and more musical context.

The consequences of poor nutrition

One premise is obligatory. Every home is a different story and must be considered in terms of what goes into the cable ducts and the hanks of electrical wires in the junction boxes in your home. It is not possible to ignore what is behind the walls. Ideally, therefore, a Hi-Fi system that aims for perfection should also have quality structural cables to support it. In addition to this, for excellent performance it is recommended to purchase a mains conditioner, which 'cleans' the mains supply of noise and allows for more faithful and noise-free music reproduction.

It has to be said, though, that cables running in cable trays, whether good or not, are 'naturally' less prone to any kind of interference, internal or external, precisely because they are behind a wall. The critical passage is when the current transmission stops passing through the walls of the house and is out in the open, i.e. when it starts from the wall socket and, usually, ends in our audio source or multi-socket. During this connection the Netzkabel is subject to interference both from the outside to the inside and vice versa. The consequence of this EMI/RFI interference takes the form, in the listener, of distortion, loss of detail, balance and three-dimensionality.

Why power cables are important

On a daily basis, we may be inclined to equate the power supply of our microwave oven at home with that of our hi-fi electronics, "because it's always a question of getting the required current to the desired device". Amplifiers and other equipment of this type, however, have a more delicate task than switching them on and off: they are designed to reproduce as accurately as possible a signal that is constantly changing according to a very large number of parameters.

But that's not all. The sound quality is also affected by the time of day at which you listen. As later in the day, fewer and fewer devices are using the mains supply, so the disturbance injected into the mains is reduced. Ultimately, audio systems tend to sound much better at night than during the day, as many enthusiasts have found.

The Netzkabel Hi-Fi influences the passage of electrons through it. Therefore, if it is the means by which the whole system sounds, not only is its importance not negligible, but it ends up being fundamental with respect to the other cables as well. In fact, any shortcomings introduced cannot be made up for later. What we listen to is nothing more than the electric current in the energy distribution network, modulated according to the signal contained in the phonographic support. In addition to this, electrical conduits are used to transport energy, but sometimes also for data transfer (powerline for example), which is a source of interference.

The solution Ricable for optimal nutrition

We have carried out a thorough study, supported by numerous tests, to find an effective remedy for interference. We have worked on geometries, shielding and insulation to produce products that guarantee optimum immunity in the various product ranges. Starting with the Primus series, which is optimally shielded for entry-level equipment, and then goes up to the Invictus. This adopts a unique geometry, insulation and shielding system, ideal for equipment of absolute technical standing. In between we find Dedalus e Magnus which complete the offer and cover the needs of any electroacoustics.

Another feather in the cap of our power cables are the top-quality RCCP connectors, which forMagnus are made of copper and for Dedalus e Invictus are made of pure OFC copper. All equipped with integrated ferrites, they allow the best connectivity you could wish for. Below you can find out more about Ricable Power , unique cables that guarantee your electronics to achieve maximum detail, balance and listening dynamics.
